A clutch defensive stop and four big free throws by Cole Sidwell capped off a come-from-behind victory over Mt. Pulaski on Tuesday, Jan. 7, for the Lincolnwood boys basketball team.
The Hilltoppers claimed a five-point lead after the first quarter at the Woodshed in Raymond on Tuesday, then clung to that lead over the next two periods as the teams went point for point.
Down 38-33 going into the fourth quarter, Lincolnwood found their range from behind the arc, with Will Jenkins hitting a pair of threes, along with a triple from Cole Sidwell as well.
The Lancers also came up big on defense, as they held Mt. Pulaski to just nine points for the second straight quarter, and at the free-throw line, where they were 8-of-9 in the final frame.
Sidwell would go 4-for-4 at the stripe, all of which came in the final 20 seconds. The Lancers took the lead at the 1:34 mark of the fourth, 48-47, and picked up a defensive stop. Sidwell would hit a pair of free to extend the margin to three points, and then went to the line again after a Hilltopper miss and a Lincolnwood rebound.
Two more free throws by the Morrisonville junior would salt away the game as Lincolnwood picked up their eighth win in 15 games.
Sidwell would finish with ten points, one of three players in double figures for Coach Matt Millburg's club. Will Jenkins led the team with 16 points, nine of which came from three-pointers. Sam Herman added in 14 points, scoring at least three points in each quarter.
In addition to the three in double digits, Lincolnwood also got six from Shawn Goebel, four from Jhadyn Walker and two from Braxton Schmedeke.
The Lancers will be on the road on Friday, Jan. 10, as they take on Nokomis on the Redskins' home floor.
