Larry Dale “Rooter” Root, 77, of Schram City, died on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at 9:36 p.m. at his residence.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 3, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. James Hayes, pastor of St. James Baptist Church in Hillsboro, officiating. The family requests casual dress or sports attire. Burial will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro.
Mr. Root was born June 12, 1944, in Hillsboro, to Harley and Virginia (Athley) Root. He married Nora Fenton, and they later divorced.
He graduated from Hillsboro High School with the class of 1963. During his career, he served as a bottle maker at Hillsboro Glass Factory and as a bartender at Drapes Lounge.
Mr. Root was a member of the Glass Blowers Union. He was an avid LA Dodgers fan and loved to gamble. Throughout his lifetime, he resided in Hillsboro and Schram City.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (husband Chad) Butler of Schram City; three grandchildren, Ashley (husband Brandon) Spensberger of Bismarck, MO, Adam (wife Kourtney) Dodds of Schram City and Austin (Madison) Dodds of Hillsboro; seven great-grandchildren; and siblings, Mary Ray and Audrey Blevins.
Mr. Root was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and four sisters.
