Larry Wayne Childers, 77, of Litchfield, died on Sunday, April 5, 2020, at 2:10 a.m. at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Private family services will be held Wednesday, April 8, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield with Father Dan Willenborg officiating. The family extends an invitation to join them for a graveside committal that will follow, beginning at 11:45 a.m. in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. Social distancing rules will be implemented. Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield is assisting the family.

Mr. Childers was born Feb. 2, 1943, in Litchfield, to Eugene E. and Edith W. (Simonton) Childers. He married Beverly Sue Keene on Aug. 8, 1981, in Hot Springs, AR, and she survives.

He graduated from Litchfield High School, and went on to serve in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War in Intelligence–Special Forces.

Mr. Childers was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield. He enjoyed following the stock market, reading and getting fresh air, but he especially enjoyed visits from his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Cindy (fiance Jeff McCormick) Childers of White Hall and Catherine (Kelley) Lehmann of Carlinville; two sisters, Lois Jean Rutherford Beaty of Litchfield and Penny Joy (Randall) Cooper of Wright City, MO; four grandchildren, Amberliegh Mix, Logan Mix, Tyler Mix and Bentley Mix.

Mr. Childers was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be directed to the Litchfield Veterans Memorial Garden.
