Late Rally Comes Up Just Short For Lancers

Posted

A furious late game rally came up just short for the Lincolnwood soccer team as the Lancers fell to conference rival Springfield Lutheran 4-3 at Terry Todt Field in Raymond.

The Crusaders would jump out to an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Landon Williams. Neither team would find the back of the net for the next 20 minutes, but Lutheran would get a pair of goals from Duncan Schiedenham in the final ten minutes to take a 3-0 halftime lead.

Lincolnwood would finally get on the board with just under 24 minutes to play when Benny Clavin converted a penalty kick, but Schiedenhelm would complete his hat trick just five minutes later to up the Crusaders’ lead back to three.

The Lancers weren’t done yet though. They would cut the lead to two shortly after Schiedenhelm’s third goal, then found the back of the net with a minute to play to pull within one. Luke Webb would net the second goal for Lincolnwood, while Levi Weir picked up the third for the Lancers.

Despite the late flurry, the Crusaders would hold on for the victory, their ninth of the season, while Lincolnwood fell to 5-6-2 on the year.

The Lancers will be in Hillsboro on Monday, Sept. 23, for the Shoal Creek Shootout against the Hiltoppers, followed by a home game against Pana on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
