Laura S. Armetta, 73

Laura S. Armetta, 73, of Litchfield, died on Wednesday morning, May 7, 2025, at her home.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Litchfield Family Funeral Service, located at 700 S. State St. in Litchfield is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Armetta was born on Nov. 21, 1951, in Chicago,  a daughter of Albert and Marie Gognat Furman. She spent her high school years in Litchfield and graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1969. After completing her teaching degree at Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1972, she married Henry Armetta in 1973, but they later divorced.

Ms. Armetta began her career as an English teacher in Florida. Later, they moved to Oakland, CA, where she worked as a supervisor at AT&T for ten years. After returning to Illinois, she relocated to Skokie, where she held the position of office administrator for the National Selected Morticians Trade Association Company.

Ms. Armetta had a passion for reading, genealogy research, Judo competitions and was very adventurous. She traveled to 49 of the 50 states as well as Bermuda, Mexico, Canada and Japan. She was very close to family, her children, and maintaining lifelong friendships. These were her greatest treasures. 

Ms. Armetta was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Kathleen Furman.

Ms. Armetta is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Armetta of Litchfield; daughter, Elizabeth Armetta of New York; one granddaughter; brothers, Mike (Victoria) Furman of Litchfield and Andrew (Bonnie) Furman of Litchfield.

Memorials may be made to Al Furman Scholarship at Litchfield Bank and Trust or TASC at 1902 Summit Street in Hillsboro, IL.
