Leroy Edward Tiemann, 92, of Coffeen, died on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021, at Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylor Springs.

A private Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey with Father Steven Janoski and Deacon Bill Kessler co-officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with full military honors. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is assisting the family.

Mr. Tiemann was born Jan. 6, 1928, in Alton, to William “Shorty” and Rose E. (Lewis) Tiemann. He married Vera Olden on Feb. 28, 1958, in Alton, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 14, 1999.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy, and went on to work as a rigger for Laclede Steel.

Mr. Tiemann was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey, Alton Moose Club, Alton Eagles and the American Legion. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling.

He is survived by his daughter, Debra (Gary) Kious of Coffeen; two grandchildren, Tracy (Randy) Smith and Julie Slimick; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Tiemann was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joseph Tiemann; and sister, Ailene “Pee Wee” Simpson.

Memorials may be directed to St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey.
