LHS Boys Fourth At SCC Meet

The Litchfield boys track team would come away with an individual champion and a fourth place finish in the team standings at the South Central Conference Meet in Hillsboro on Monday, May 6.

The Panthers would put together a solid outing, with 15 entries finishing in the points, highlighted by Sam Painter's first place finish in the triple jump.

Painter, a senior in his first season in the triple jump, jumped 41'8.5" to win the event by more than a foot. Painter would nearly double up, finishing second to Greenville's Isaac Green in the long jump by two inches, with a mark of 21'4".

Four other entries would also score points in the field events. Jefferson Thomas took third in the shot put, throwing 41'0", while teammate John Corso was eighth in the discus with a toss of 109'5".

In the pole vault, Will Carlile would finish fifth, clearing 11'6", while Cameron Crow was fifth in the high jump, posting a mark of 5'10".

On the track, Crow did even better, finishing fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 53.95. Alex Fischer and Ethan Rigsbey both finished in the top eight in the 800, with Fischer placing second in a time of 2:10.78 and Rigsbey taking sixth in a time of 2:21.98.

Litchfield would also score twice in the 300 hurdles, with Austin Niehaus taking fifth with a time of 46.19 and Garrett Flitz placing eighth with a time of 48.63. Kevin Pollard would also grab a top five, placing fifth in the 3200 with a time of 11:30.19.

Litchfield would finish in the top six in three of the four relays, including a second place finish in the 4x400, where Crow, Carlile, Niehaus and Fischer would run a 3:38.57.

The 4x800 squad of Rigsbey, Niehaus, Fischer and Damon Burdell would finish fourth with a time of 9:04.76, while the 4x100 team of Carlile, Ethan Washburn, Colton Wall and Chase Dealy would run a 48.10 to place sixth overall.

The Litchfield boys will compete in the Gillespie Sectional on Thursday, May 16, with field events beginning at 4:30 p.m.
