The Litchfield Lady Panthers picked up a big South Central Conference win over Greenville on Monday, May 6, beating the Comets 12-5 for their second conference victory of the year.
On the heels of their first SCC win, over Roxana on April 29, the Lady Panthers rattled the bats early to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Both Emily Senjan and Mallory Beechler would triple to lead off the inning, with Senjan scoring on Beechler's hit and Beechler scoring on a ground out by Lizzy Luttrell.
The Comets would come back though, getting a run in the first and two in the second to take an early 3-2 lead.
The see-saw battle didn't end there though, as Litchfield plated three more runs to regain the advantage. Beechler would pick up her second consecutive triple to start the rally, with Luttrell walking to put two runners on.
Trisha Seipp would drive in both Beechler and Luttrell with Litchfield's fourth triple of the game, making the score 4-3 with one out. Carly Boden would drive in Seipp with a ground out and Litchfield held a two-run lead after two innings.
After a scoreless fourth, the Panthers got back at it with two more runs in the fifth. Both Seipp and Boden would single to start the inning, with Bri Jeffers grounding out to score Seipp and McKenzie Emerson reaching on an error that allowed Boden to score.
Greenville would get one run back to make it 7-4, but the Panthers came up with four more runs in the top of the sixth to blow the game open.
It would be almost like deja vu for the Panthers as Senjan and Beechler both singled, Luttrell and Seipp both doubled and Boden, Jeffers and Hickerson all singled to give Litchfield seven straight hits in the inning.
Beechler, Luttrell, Seipp and Boden would all come around to score in the frame, with Senjan adding an insurance run in the seventh after she tripled and scored off a ground ball by Beechler.
Greenville would get one run in the sixth, but weren't able to cut further into the lead as Litchfield improved to 5-16 overall and 2-5 in the SCC.
Trisha Seipp would go 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three more driven in for Litchfield, while Carly Boden also had three hits, two runs and two RBIs. Emily Senjan, Ashley Hickerson, Bri Jeffers and Mallory Beechler all had two hits in the win as well.
Senjan would get the victory on the mound, striking out nine batters and giving up five runs, only two of which were earned, on ten hits and two walks.
The Panthers, who were rained out on Wednesday against East Alton-Wood River, still have two conference games left this week as they host Vandalia on Thursday, May 9, and Staunton on Friday, May 10.
