Lila Peterson, 73, previously of Coffeen and Belles Terres in Aurora, died at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, after a lengthy battle with COPD.

Cremation rites have been accorded. The family will hold a memorial luncheon at the Pennuto residence in Joliet on Sunday, March 22, from noon to 4 p.m. For more information contact the family via email at LilaandIvanMemorial@gmail.com. 

Ms. Peterson was born on Sept. 24, 1946, in Taylorville, to Andrew and Ida Collilieux. She married Ivan Peterson, they divorced. She married Patrick Simmons, who preceded her in death in 2008.

Mr. Peterson worked at I-80 Enterprise and as a medical records assistant for many years. She loved to travel, spend time with four generations of her family at weekly dinners and steal a taste of others’ food and drinks. She could be found hanging out by the Belles Terres pool nearly every day.

Ms. Peterson is survived by: her son, Raymond R. Peterson; granddaughter, Melissa (Larry) Pennuto; great-grandchildren, Cecilia and Janina Christman, and Giovanni and Lorenzo Pennuto; niece, Tina (Steve) Frazier; special nieces, Lynda (Larry Chapman) Peterson and Debbie (Lee) Reynolds; and several grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her second husband; first husband; parents; and brothers, Andrew, Robert and Paul Collilieux.
