Lincolnwood Golf Sweeps Home Matches

The Lincolnwood High School golf team was at home on Thursday, Sept. 5, to host Carlinville, Carrollton and Shelbyville at Shoal Creek Golf Course in Raymond. The Lancers would play well, finishing first in the boys and girls matches as the boys improved to 13-1 and the girls rose to 6-3.

The boys would be steady in their victory, placing four players in the top six to come away with a 170. Shelbyville would be second with a 177, while Carlinville was third with a 193. Carrollton would finish out the team scoring with a 219.

Just four strokes separated the Lancers’ four scoring rounds, with Sam Herman shooting a 4-over-par 40 at his home course. Only Will Leach of Shelbyville would shoot better, carding an even-par 36, with a birdie on the par-3 seventh hole.

Will Jenkins would be just two shots back of Herman with a 42, with Devin Brown and Michael Jones finishing out the scoring with a pair of 44s.

Nate Brockmeyer and Braxton Schmedeke would also play for the Lancers, shooting rounds of 47 and 50 for the day.

The Lincolnwood JV would also spend some time on the course, shooting a 211, with scores of 48 and 49 by Michael Graham and Colton Tischkau, plus a 54 from Drake Germann, a 60 from Jacob Mizera and a 63 from George Schoenherr.

In the girls’ match, the Lancers had another steady showing, putting four players at 52 or under. Sydney Herman would shoot a 45 to tie for second overall with Carrollton’s Libby Meuth. Carlinville’s top shooter would be Elsa Mefford with a 5-over-par 41.

Jordyn Gerlach and Dorie Krager would tie with a 49 each, while Stephanie Perun added a 52. Micah Gehlbach would have her best round of the season with a 65, while Shelby Hattenbach finished with an 81.

As a team, the Lancers would shoot a 195 to take the top spot. Carrollton took second with a 207, beating Carlinville on a fifth player tie breaker by one stroke. Shelbyville would be fourth with a 251.

On Tuesday, both teams will be on the road, with the Lincolnwood boys playing at Lincoln Greens against Rochester and Lanphier, while the girls take on Pana and Decatur Eisenhower at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur. Both teams will be in Auburn on Wednesday, Sept. 11, for the MSM Conference Tournament at Edgewood Golf Course.
