Litchfield Bank Robber Pleads Guilty On Monday

A man who was caught by police with the money moments after a bank robbery in Litchfield over the summer pled guilty to the crime in Montgomery County Circuit Court on Monday, Sept. 30.

Gregory C. Stickel, 71, of Victoria, TX, pled guilty to felony aggravated robbery in front of Judge Doug Jarman Monday at the courthouse in Hillsboro.  A sentencing hearing has been set for 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19. 

The court is awaiting lab reports on a pending felony count of possession of meth.

At about 9 a.m. on July 10, a Litchfield police officer saw Stickel carrying a bag of money just after he left the Litchfield National Bank Route 66 Banking Center on West Union Avenue.  Officer Brian Maxwell earned a Merit Award for Excellent Arrest for his work on the case.
