Members of the Litchfield School Board held a special meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Litchfield High School.
Following a half an hour in closed session, the board unanimously approved the suspension of high school teacher Peggy Adamick without pay and benefits immediately. The suspension will remain in effect pending completion of her dismissal hearing.
Prior to the closed session, the oath of office was administered to new board member Julie Abel, who replaces Ed Schumacher on the board.
Abel and her husband, Chris, have two children, Hannah and Lexi. She is currently a certified public accountant and vice-president and treasurer at a life insurance company.
"My main goal is to be an advocate for the students by ensuring they are provided with a quality education that will allow them to be successful in the future," Abel said. "I understand the need to be innovative in finding ways to meet the needs of the students and staff while remaining fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars."
Abel is a graduate of Litchfield High School, and holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting and a master's degree in business administration.
Board member Dennis Scobbie was absent from the meeting.
The next meeting of the Litchfield School Board will be Thursday, Oct. 19, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Radius Room at Litchfield High School.
