Litchfield Boys Track Wins At Home Meet

The Litchfield boys track team picked up a victory at home on Friday, May 14, beating out Vandalia and Southwestern with 73 points.

The Panthers would win 10 events, including all three of the relays they entered. In the 4x100, Will Carlile, Keenan Powell, Hunter Hancock and Cameron Crow ran a 46.6 to take the top spot in the 4x100, with Crow, Carlile, Powell and Camden Quarton also winning the 4x400 in a time of 3:47.9. The other relay win came in the 4x800, with Alex DeLaCruz, Brandon Malloy, Kevin Pollard and Quarton winning in a time of 9:42.9.

Other victories on the track came in the 400, where Cameron Crow ran a 53.9, the 800, where Camden Quarton ran a 2:12.8 and the 1600, where Peyton Baugher ran an 8:09.0.

In the field events, Litchfield swept the throws, with Owen Baugher winning both the shot put and discus competitions. Baugher threw 10.49 meters in the shot and 29.37 meters in the discus to take the two victories.

In the jumps, Cameron Crow won the high jump with a mark of 1.77 meters, while teammate Keenan Powell tied for second at 1.62 meters. Will Carlile would also win the pole vault for Litchfield, clearing 4.11 meters, a height of 13’6”.

Jerseyville Relays

The LHS boys would also compete in the Jerseyville Relays on Friday, May 7, taking fifth place in the seven-team event. Civic Memorial would take first with 107 points, followed by Granite City with 98, Highland with 96, Freeburg with 68 and the Panthers with 49. Waterloo (41) and Jerseyville (37) would round out the team results.

Litchfield earned a win in the pole vault, where Will Carlile and Paul Cowgill combined to clear 21’6”. Carlile would go 13’0” for his best vault, while Cowgill cleared 8’6”.

Cowgill was also part of Litchfield’s second place finish in the 1600 meter medley. He, Keenan Powell, Cameron Crow and Camden Quarton teamed up to run a 3:55.9, with Cowgill and Powell running 200 meters each, Crow running 400 and Quarton controlling the 800.

Another highlight of the meet was a third place finish in the discus, where Owen Baugher and Allen Schneider threw for 76’4” and 74’0” respectively.

Litchfield will be back at home on Tuesday, May 18, when they welcome Greenville and Hillsboro to town.
