With the general election less than one month away, members of the Litchfield Chamber of Commerce are hosting a virtual candidate forum tonight, Thursday, Oct. 7, beginning at 5 p.m.
Candidates will take part in a debate-style question and answer forum, with time for rebuttal if needed, according to forum committee chairman Cory Evans.
Local candidates will meet at the Litchfield Community Center, although the forum will be closed to the public due to the ongoing pandemic. Cass Cooper will be live streaming the event through the Litchfield Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook page.
Evans said they invited all local candidates to take part in the debate, which will include Representative Avery Bourne and Chase Wilhelm, who are running for District 95 in the Illinois House of Representatives as well as Montgomery County State’s Attorney Bryant Hitchings and Andrew Affrunti, who are running for the county state’s attorney position. Local candidates for the Montgomery County Board have also been invited to participate, and Evans expects many of them will be there.
“We are excited to have the forum back this year,” Evans said. “Even though it’s a virtual forum, we hope to reach a bigger audience and help inform voters about local issues.”
