Litchfield Chamber Plans Country Christmas Event

Holiday festivities will kick off in the City of Litchfield on Saturday, Dec. 14, with the Litchfield Chamber of Commerce's Country Christmas.

The holiday celebrations will begin early at 8:30 a.m. with the annual Jingle Bell Jog 5K Run/Walk. The yearly race is a festive  event for the entire family. Holiday-themed costumes are encouraged. Prizes will be awarded to the overall male and female finishers, and the top three male and female age-division finishers. A prize will also be awarded for best costume. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Bank and Trust, located at 325 North Madison. Race and costume winners will be announced immediately after the run.

A free showing of the cult-classic holiday movie "A Christmas Story" will begin at noon at the Westside Cinema. The free entertainment is courtesy of the Westside Cinema.

The annual Holiday Walk will be held from 1 to 6 p.m., giving shoppers a chance to finish their Christmas gift purchases locally. Participating businesses will have sales, promotions and refreshments for walkers. Saturday is also the last day to participate in the chamber's Shop Local Passport. Shoppers may pick up a passport at the Chamber Office or from one of the participating passport stops: The Briar Rose, Cisler and Associates Real Estate Inc., Creative Flair Screen Print and Embroidery, Jubelt's Restaurant and Bakery, Phyllbena's, Short Furniture of Litchfield and Snap Fitness. Participants are tasked with visiting all of the participating stops to get their local passports stamped. Turn passports in to the Litchfield Chamber by Monday, Dec. 16, for a chance to win a prize.

Christmas characters Ernie the Elf and Frankie the Turtle will be  out-and-about throughout the day, interacting with event attendees. The Litchfield Train Group will host a model railroad open house from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Ameriprise Financial Building, located at 510 North State Street.

Holiday festivities will continue into the evening with the annual Christmas Parade. Line up will begin at 3 p.m. at Sihler School. The route will end at the old library building. Prizes will be award for first, second and third places in the floats category. Winners will be announced at Library Park after the parade. Registration forms are available at the Chamber Office.

Following the parade, children are encouraged to head over to the old library building for the chance to meet Santa and get a photo. A variety of fun Christmas themed stations will be set up inside of the library. Hot chocolate and cookies will be provided.
