More than 300 athletes spent Saturday swimming, biking and running in the 10th annual Triathlou at Lake Lou Yaeger in Litchfield.
"We love coming here," master of ceremonies Lee O'Connor of Racemaker Productions said before beginning the event just after 7 a.m. "We get a lot of support from the community, and we appreciate that."
This year's Triathlou featured three events: the Half (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run), the Olympic (.9 mile swim, 24.8 mile bike, 6.2 mile run), and the Sprint (.3 mile swim, 13 mile bike, 3.1 mile run).
Devon Loftus of Pawnee was the top male finisher in the top event, finishing the Half in 4:41:09.95, more than ten minutes in front of the second place finisher, Brent Fiegel of Davenport, IA. Brian Quarton of Litchfield finished fifth in 4:59:56.11
Renee White of Michael was the top female finisher in 4:58:58.18. Jessi Springer of Hillsboro finished 59th at 7:52:32.03.
In the Olympic event, Justin Bowen of Grover, MO, crossed the line first in 2:13:34.26. Locally, Matthew Vaughn of Litchfield finished 13 at 2:42:03.08, Mark Stieren of Litchfield was 28th at 2:50:06.14, and Bill Fleming of Litchfield was 32nd at 2:53:01.64.
Abbey Sundermeyer of Bridgeton, MO, won the female Olympic event at 2:21:36.56.
In the Sprint event, it was Joseph Hagen of Madison, WI, across the finish line first in 1:07:20.71, while Jennifer Meyer of St. Louis was the first female to finish in 1:12:49.57. Locally, Erin Fuson of Coffeen was 93rd at 1:47:05.86, Linda Weiss of Hillsboro was 113th at 1:58:35.39, Jamie Murray of Hillsboro was 122nd at 2:04:55.53, and Jackie Perkins of Hillsboro was 124th at 2:06:15.86.
Each event participant enjoyed a post-race lunch from Smokin' Brothers BBQ and a 10th year finisher medal.
