Litchfield Man Charged With Arson After Tuesday's Fire


A Litchfield man was charged with arson after a fire early Tuesday, June 26, in the 1500 block of North State Street in Litchfield.

Donald "Scott" Willis, 43, of Litchfield, was taken into custody and charged with arson after an investigation of the fire at the vacant house by the Litchfield Police Department and Litchfield Fire Department. He was then transported to the Montgomery County Jail and held for prosecution.

Litchfield Emergency Services were dispatched to a structure fire at 1518 North State Street  at 12:34 a.m., with 17 firefighters and six fire apparatus responding to the blaze. The Litchfield Fire Department was on the scene for almost two hours, until 2:23 a.m.

According to the Litchfield Fire Department, the residence south of the fire also received some radiant heat damage to its siding and windows.

A bond hearing was held for Willis on Wednesday, June 27, with bond set at $75,000. A preliminary hearing was set for Tuesday, July 17.
