Members of the Litchfield School Board held a special meeting on Thursday evening, Aug. 8, to discuss community listening events as well as to plan the budget for the coming year.

With all board members and administrators in attendance, they met in open session for nearly four hours.

Shortly after the meeting was called to order, the board approved the personnel report. They approved the hire of Conor White as high school physical education teacher for the 2019-2020 school year and as the head baseball coach at the high school. They also hired Jeanne Gebhardt and Sandy Everett as bus drivers and approved the 2019-2020 bus route assignments and times.

Board members also discussed the dates and protocol for upcoming community listening sessions. The first one is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 3, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Litchfield Public Library.

The board spent the remainder of the meeting discussing the 2019-2020 budget. Superintendent Dr. Greggory Fuerstenau talked about what a school district budget looks like and where the funding comes from each year, as well as the big picture for the Litchfield School District.

Up next, the board will meet tonight, Monday, Aug. 12, at 7 p.m. at Lincoln Land Community College in Litchfield with school boards from Hillsboro and Panhandle for the presentation of the reorganization study. No action will be taken by any of the boards following the presentation.

They will have their regular monthly meeting on Thursday evening, Aug. 15, at Sihler School in Litchfield, beginning at 5:45 p.m. with a public hearing, followed by the regular meeting.
