Litchfield Track Hosts SCC Foes

The Litchfield High School track team welcomed two South Central Conference foes to town on Tuesday, March 19, as Gillespie and Greenville ventured into Montgomery County.

The Panthers would finish second in the boys meet with 51 points, 11 behind first place Greenville and two ahead of third place Gillespie.

Sam Painter would take first in the triple jump, one of six firsts for LHS, and was second in the long jump and the 100 meter dash. Painter would jump 41'10" in the triple jump and 21'2.5" in the long jump, while clocking in at 11.6 in the dash.

 Alex Fischer would also claim first in the 800, posting a time of 2:16.9, while teammate Ethan Rigsby was third with a time of 2:52.2. Austin Niehaus also won on the track, clocking in at 4:59 in the 1600, while Jefferson Thomas won in the field, throwing 36'7"in the shot.

Litchfield also swept the top two spots in the pole vault, with Garrett Flitz clearing 11'0" and Will Carlile clearing 10'0". The Panthers' other first came in the relays, where the 4x800 team ran a 9:20.

In addition to the first place finishers, Litchfield also finished second in the 4x100 and got a second from Cameron Crow in the high jump (5'6") and a third from Alex DeLaCruz in the 400 (1:10.6).

On the girls' side, Gillespie won the meet with 65 points and were followed by Greenville (54) and Litchfield (48).

Carson Lemon was first in three events for Litchfield as she swept the hurdles and cleared 8'0" to win the pole vault. Lemon would run a 17.8 in the 100 meter hurdles and a 55.9 in the 300 meter race.

Caroline Quarton also picked up a pair of victories, running a 5:55.9 in the 1600 and a 12:51 in the 3200. Teammate Kylee Eiting would finish second in both races, clocking in at 6:11.6 and 13:13.

The Lady Panthers would also go 1-2 in the 400, with Rylie Jagosh running a 1:08.4 and Hailey Bolte running a 1:09.6. Natalia Deren continued Litchfield's success on the track with a first place finish in the 800 with a time of 3:02 as well.

Litchfield's other first place finish came in the relays, where they ran the 4x400 in a time of 4:55.1.

Weather permitting, the Litchfield track team will be back at home on Friday as they host the annual Litchfield relays.
