The Litchfield Panthers hosted their soccer senior night on Friday, May 3. Seniors Greta Fleming and Sidney Hoehl were recognized for their accomplishments prior to the non-conference tilt versus Jerseyville.
As has been the case for the home team this year, Litchfield was the better team throughout most of the game but could not find the back of the net enough to put the other team away.
The Lady Panthers would finally dent the scoreboard, with Maddie Diamond sneaking one past the Jerseyville netminder more than midway through the second half.
Jerseyville would find a way to tie the game with less than a minute to go and the teams would head to penalty kicks to decide the winner.
Jordan Morgan, Devan Morgan and Maddie Diamond would score in the first round of PKs, which was tied at three goals apiece. The sudden death second round would see only one shooter from each team as Jerseyville missed, and Carson Jackson would rise up to be the hero and seal the victory for the hometown Panthers.
Litchfield will take on Gillespie on Tuesday, May 7, at the Greenville Regional, with the game also serving as the South Central Conference contest between the two clubs. The winner will advance to the regional championship on Friday, May 10, in Greenville, taking on the winner of the other regional semifinal between Auburn and Greenville.
