A Litchfield woman died after she was hit by a vehicle while walking her dog Thursday evening, Nov. 8.
Lorie McDonald, 46, was transported to HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield where she was pronounced dead at 9:45 p.m. by emergency room medical staff, according to Montgomery County Coroner Randy Leetham. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday.
She had worked as director of the Lincoln Land Community College campus in Litchfield since 2014, and has been active in the Litchfield community since then.
"Lorie was a highly engaged leader, well-respected by her colleagues and students," Lincoln Land President Dr. Charlotte Warren said in a social media statement Friday. "She loved her job and was dedicated to serving LLCC and her community."
Counselors were on the Litchfield campus on Friday and will return when classes resume next week to assist students and employees.
According to Illinois State Police, McDonald was on the west side of the intersection at Route 16 and Monroe Street in Litchfield when she was struck by an eastbound pickup truck driven by Nathan Glover, 31, of Litchfield at 9:10 p.m. The driver was cited for operation of an uninsured vehicle. The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police traffic crash reconstruction unit.
