Lloyd Woodford Massey, 89, of Decatur, died on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019, at Generations of McKinley Court.   

Visitation will be held prior to the service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Smith Grove Cemetery in Greenville. Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home of Decatur is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Massey was born on April 13, 1930, in Sorento, to Vernon and Mary (Blaylock) Massey. He attended a one room schoolhouse during his elementary years and graduated from Greenville High School in 1948.

In January of 1950, Mr. Massey joined the U.S. Navy where he served in the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Graffias for 39 months in Japan. He married Ellen Ann Goodson on Jan. 9, 1954.  They moved to Decatur in December 1955, where he joined Caterpillar Tractor Company and worked for 30 years.

Mr. Massey was a lifetime member of Mound Chapel Church of God and a volunteer at Decatur Memorial Hospital for 23 years. He was also a member of the CRC, Korean War Veterans of America and the American Legion.

Mr. Massey is survived by his wife; children, Robert Massey (Anita), David Massey (Sherry) of Decatur, Lori Ann Durand of Edgewater, FL; sister, Della File; and grandchildren, Greg Taylor, Nick Massey, and Katie Massey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Naomi Kious.
