Local Firefighers Battle Saturday Evening Blaze


Members of the Coffeen Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to an evening structure fire on West 2nd Street at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9. According to the department, a vehicle caught fire and the blaze eventually spread to the house.

The vehicle was deemed a total loss, while there was heavy fire damage to the structure. Ten firefighters of the Coffeen Fire Department responded, along with mutual aid from the Fillmore Fire Department and 21 personnel from the Hillsboro Fire Department. Coffeen Fire Department was on scene for approximately three hours, while the Hillsboro Fire Department returned back to service at 5:15 p.m.
