Loretta May Cullison, 99, died on Tuesday, August 13, 2019, at Avonlea Cottage in Sterling.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, at McDonald Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Belvidere Cemetery in Belvidere. McDonald Funeral Home is located at 1002 12th Avenue in Rock Falls.

Mrs. Cullison was born in Belvidere on Dec. 4, 1919, to Harold and Harriet (Lloyd) Pritchard. She married Roy F. Cullison on Jan. 1, 1942, in Wichita Falls, TX. He preceded her in death on June 2, 2005. Mrs. Cullison was a 1937 graduate of Belvidere High School and later graduated from Northern Illinois State Teachers College in DeKalb.

She began teaching in a rural two room school in Boone County and concluded her career as a first grade teacher at Logan School in Belvidere. Mrs. Cullison was an active member of the Belvidere First United Methodist Church, where she taught  Sunday school and home Bible studies for many years. In 2002, she and her husband moved to Rock Falls to be near their daughter. She was a member of the Rock Falls United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Cullison is survived by her children, Bonnie (Kim) Groharing of Rock Falls and Stephen (Becky) Cullison of Hillsboro; five grandchildren, Janna Groharing, Marcy (John) Moorhead, Taylor (Alex) Cullison, Blair (Grant) Jarzynka, and Paige Cullison; and four great grandchildren, Alyssa and Kaitlyn Moorhead, and Blake and Lauren Cullison.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her sister and brother-in-law,  June and Maynard Oakley; and a special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale and Marge Cullison.
