Louise Simmons, 83, of rural Vienna, died unexpectedly on Monday afternoon, March 15, 2021, at 5 p.m. at Baptist Health Care in Paducah, KY.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Private interment will be held at Wise-Robinson Cemetery, north of Ozark. Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna is assisting the family.

Mrs. Simmons was born Aug. 19, 1937, in Macoupin County, the second of eight children to George and Lorene (Sanders) Adams. She married Donald R. Simmons on July 19, 1957, in Springfield, and he survives.

She was a graduate of the Waggoner Public School system. In her youth, she helped with the operation of the family farm.

Mrs. Simmons was later employed as a medical secretary in the underwriting department at Franklin Life Company in Springfield. She was also a dedicated homemaker.

She enjoyed many types of handcrafts and was a particularly skilled seamstress and quilter.

Mrs. Simmons was a member of Egyptian Chapter #30 Order of the Eastern Star in Vienna. She was a faithful Christian and dedicated church worker. She and her husband worshipped together at the New Burnside Missionary Baptist Church. Through the years, she taught a number of Sunday School classes and assisted her husband in teaching as well. She was a student of the Bible and had read her Bible through many times.

She will be remembered for her loving and giving heart, her strong work ethic and her dedication to her family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Simmons is survived by her daughters, Lila Elaine (Bill) Neely of Vienna, Deanna Lynn (David) Bremer of Metropolis and Laura Jean (Ron) Rawlinson of Kaufman, TX; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Bonnie Davis of Springfield, Georgia Mae (Dave) Williams, Robert (Cathy) Adams, both of Butler, David (Sally) Adams of Hillsboro, John (Charlene) Adams of Altha, FL, and Barbra Jean Flitz of Litchfield; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Marc D. Simmons; infant brother, Billy Wayne Adams; brother and sister-in-law, Leroy (Dorothy “Leelee”) Adams; and brother-in-law, Danny Davis.
