Lucy M. Starnes, 85

Lucy Mae (Crook) Starnes, 85, of Coffeen, died on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at 6:29 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 25, from 12 to 1 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Memorial services will follow, beginning at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation rites were accorded and burial will be held in Brown Cemetery in Old Ripley. 

Mrs. Starnes was born Dec. 29, 1934, in Success, AR, to Joseph Edward and Georgia Adeline (Briggs) Crook. She married Roy L. Starnes on Oct. 30, 1953, in Greenville, MS, and he preceded her in death on March 27, 2020.

She graduated high school and worked as a retail sales clerk. During her lifetime, she resided in Pine Island, FL, Punto Gorda, FL, and Coffeen.

Mrs. Starnes loved to do puzzles, spend time with her family and take care of everyone.

She is survived by her children, Paula (husband Kenneth) VanHekken of Belding, MI, Kelly Starnes of Coffeen, Dennis (wife Marsha) Starnes of Punta Gorda, FL, and Maureen (husband Ron Richards) Starnes of Shelbyville, IN; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul Crook of Houston, TX.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Starnes was preceded in death by her parents; son, Steve Starnes; three sisters; and four brothers.
