Lyle E. McElroy, 87, of Nokomis, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021 in his home surrounded by family.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Nov. 10 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis. A Funeral Mass Of  Christian Burial will be held immediately following at 11 a.m. Father Dan Willenborg and Father John Burnett will officate. Complete military services will follow after the mass. Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. McElroy was born in Butler on June 13, 1934, the son of Kenneth and Mary (Seagle) McElroy. He married Jean Jaros on December 24, 1954 in St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Nokomis.

He was an Army veteran of nine years serving in the Korean Conflict. He retired from Caterpillar as a supervisor after 25 years, and also was a truck driver for Buske. Mr. McElroy wrote a column for the Free Press Progress and was employed by Tosetti & Associates. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and a former member of the American Legion.

Mr. McElroy is survived by his wife; daughters Stephanie (husband Paul) Kincaid, Veronica (husband Randy) Akin, Carla (husband Craig) Carey all of Springfield, Monica (husband Dan) Clavin of Nokomis; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; sister Marilyn Gonet of Coalton; and brother Dean (wife Maxine) McElroy of Irving.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Robert McElroy; and brothers Michael, Darrell and Dallas McElroy.
