Lynda Elizabeth (Brightwell) Sprowl, 77, died Sunday, April 21, 2019, in Moyock, NC.

Visitation will be held Saturday, May 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington Street in O'Fallon. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.  A Celebration of Life event will follow the services at the family home.

Burial will be held Monday, May 6, at 10:15 a.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.

Mrs. Sprowl was born Oct. 15, 1941, in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of James Allen and Thelma (Hathcoat) Brightwell. She married Robert Sprowl, and he survives.

She was a 1959 graduate of Belleville High School. In 1995, she retired after working as an executive secretary in the U.S. government for 28 years, including 15 years with Scott Air Force Base, three years with the U.S. Army in Vicenza, Italy, and ten years at March Air Force Base in California. She was an active member of the Church of Christ in Belleville, Hemet, CA, and Spring Lake, NC. 

Her hobbies included gardening, motorcycle riding and sports, including bowling, golf, waterskiing and snow skiing, and softball. She was the catcher on the 1992 March Air Force Base Ladies Softball League championship team when she was 50 years old, the oldest player in the league by well over ten years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sister, Jamye (husband Bill) Ritzel of Troy; daughters, Cynthia McClary of O'Fallon and Janelle (husband Brad) Smith of Moyock, NC; sons, Allen (wife Nicki) McClary of Litchfield, Robert D. (wife Debbie) Sprowl of Millbrook, AL, and Greggory Sprowl of Emerald City, CA; 16 grandchildren, Kyrstin Osborne, Alysia Field, Cori Marler, Shasta Brocious, Brad Smith, Micah Smith, Justin McClary, Chase McClary, Kayla Sprowl, Rebecca Baranyk, Cassandra Burns, Anna Burns, Lindon Burns, Heather Sprowl, Cheyenne Sprowl and Peyton Sprowl; and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Nathan Henry McClary; and a daughter, LeAnn Marie Sprowl.
