Mabel Loree McElroy, 78, of Coffeen, died on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020, at HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 6, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Ryan Thiele, pastor of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Coffeen, officiating. Interment will be at  Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Coffeen. CDC guidelines will be followed, and mourners are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mrs. McElroy was born on July 9, 1942, in East St. Louis, to Marvin and Belle (Watkins) Gansner. She married Gene Robbins and they later divorced. She later married Larry McElroy, and he preceded her in death.

Mrs. McElroy graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1960. She had worked at Peterson Spring Factory in Greenville. Mrs. McElroy was a member of  Moose Lodge #1377 in Hillsboro, Litchfield Eagles Aerie #4499 and the Red Hat Magnolias in Coffeen. She loved to have a good time and was always the life of the party.

Mrs. McElroy is survived by her children, Richard “Rick” (Julie) Robbins of Coffeen and  Bart (Kelly) Robbins of Carlinville; special friend, Walter Neely of Coffeen; grandchildren, Summer Robbins of Jacksonville, FL, and Amanda Robbins of Dorsey; and great-grandchildren, Ben Ronco, Brayden Ronco and Kennady Davidson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband;    and brother, Carl Gansner.
