A Hillsboro man who was arrested at the scene faces a felony charge for allegedly setting the house where he lives on fire on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
Dustin Olson, 28, of Hillsboro, has been charged with aggravated arson with people present. He will make his first appearance in court with counsel at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, in front of Judge Doug Jarman.
According to Chief Randy Leetham, Hillsboro police were called to 1307 Center Street at 7:53 p.m. Wednesday for a domestic disturbance involving Olson and his mother, but arrived to find the house on fire. Olson was arrested at the scene while the home was blazing, and charged with the felony after the Hillsboro Police Department and Hillsboro Fire Department determined that the fire was set in the basement.
Twenty-eight members of the Hillsboro Fire Department were called to the scene at 7:54 p.m. and found the structure fully involved. The fire rekindled just before midnight, and 22 firefighters responded and again battled the blaze into the early morning hours.
