Marcella Peek, 103, of Fillmore, died on Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, in Hillsboro.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 20, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Miller Funeral Home in Fillmore. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Plummer and the Rev. Houston Jackson co-officiating. Burial will be held at Glendale Cemetery in Fillmore. Guidelines set forth by the CDC will be adhered, including social distancing and masks.
Mrs. Peek was born March 31, 1917, in Illinois, to Jason C. and Edythe M. Carter. She married Charles Wesley Peek on March 30, 1940, in Springfield, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 19, 1993.
She was a secretarial clerk at Horace Mann Insurance and also worked at the Strong Cafeteria, both in Springfield. She was a member of the Fillmore Baptist Church.
Mrs. Peek was loved by all who knew her. She loved being with her family, gardening and traveling, and was a great cook.
She is survived by her son, Richard “Dick” Peek of Fillmore; daughter, Marcy Schneider of Jeffersonville, IN; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Peek was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Henry “Buster,” Chester, Ezra and Victor Carter; and six sisters, Juanita Clowdus, Cleda Bessmer, Ruby Rickher, Allie Carter, Hylda Hill and Madge Porter.
