Margaret “Jaynece” Dothager, 94, of Greenville, formerly of Mulberry Grove, died on Sunday, June 20, 2021, at Cedarhurst of Greenville.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 23, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Mulberry Grove with Pastor Joe Lawson officiating. Burial will follow at Taylor Cemetery in rural Vandalia.

Mrs. Dothager was born July 17, 1926, in rural Coffeen, to Reginald L. and Almeda B. (Causey) Blankenship. She married Wilbert Herman Dothager on Jan. 27, 1951, in rural Coffeen, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 2010.

She was a retired teacher, having been a life-long educator in the Vandalia School District and surrounding areas. She began teaching when she was 18 years old in a one-room schoolhouse and continued into her retirement years.

Mrs. Dothager enjoyed reading to her students and also taught Sunday and Bible school. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mulberry Grove.

She is survived by her sons, Daniel (Aurelia) Dothager of Fairhope, AL, Dwight (Julie) Dothager of Vandalia and Randal Dothager of Mulberry Grove; daughters, Janice (Danny) Dodson of Pocahontas and Regina (Vaughn) Robart of Greenville; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Roger (Janet) Blankenship of Nokomis; and sister, Jewel (Kenneth) Gunn of Fayetteville, GA.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Dothager was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Harold and Reginald Blankenship; and sisters, Joy Blankenship in infancy and Rosemary Blankenship.
