Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield with the Rev. Roy Eller, pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18.

Mrs. Hampton was born in Claremont, a daughter of J. Ferd and Clara (Benefiel) Clark. She graduated from LaJunta High School in LaJunta, CO, with the class of 1949 and worked as a secretary for several years while living in Colorado.

She married Earl William Campbell on June 2, 1949, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 1968. She then married his Army buddy, Carl Eugene Hampton. Mr. Hampton's first wife, Donna Jeane (Hartgrove), had died on Nov. 25, 1968, and their spouses had continued to communicate. They were married on June 5, 1970, moving Marian and her children to Litchfield. Her second husband preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 2013.

Mrs. Hampton was employed by Jubelt's Variety Bakery–Downtown, the Litchfield News-Herald, and her favorite place to work was H.E. Nursery Garden and Landscape Center because she enjoyed gardening and her outdoor floral areas at home.

She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Litchfield for several years and was a current member of New Hope Baptist Church in North Litchfield Township. Over the years she served as a Sunday School teacher and helped each year with Vacation Bible School, Women's Ministries, deacon's wife, and enjoyed singing in the church choir. She participated in other facets of church activities and loved serving her Lord. Her other service ministry was Campers on Mission. She and her husband have traveled the country in their fifth wheel mobile home to help work on church building projects. In 2017 she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Campers on Mission Foundation for years of devoted service. She was also a member of the National Campers' and Hikers' Association and the Good Sam Club, and enjoyed cooking and baking.

She is survived by two sons, Gary (Patty) Hampton of Litchfield and Michael W. Campbell of Chesterfield, MO; four daughters, Carol (Alan) Berry of Hillsboro, Patty (Joel) Londeen of Wildwood, MO, Mary Hampton of Hillsboro, and Connie Hampton; eight grandchildren, Scott (Traci) Deaton of Altamont, Brad Deaton of Litchfield, Sarah Deaton of Hillsboro, Jon (Hope) Londeen of Ellisville, MO, Carissa (Blake) Hammann of Carlinville, Sam Hampton of Hillsboro, Kati (fiancé, Chris Fenton) Hampton of Litchfield, and Jordan Campbell of Chino Hills, CA; and four great-grandchildren, Savannah, Walker and Annalie Deaton, Henry and Harper Hammann.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Ralph and Tom Clark, and her sister Virginia LeMay.
