Marie Pauline Kilzer, 90, of St. Elmo, died on Friday, Nov. 6, 2020, at 1:38 p.m. at her home, surrounded by her family.

A private family funeral service was held Monday, Nov. 9, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Elmo with the Rev. Joseph Havrilka officiating. Burial followed at St. Bonaventure Cemetery in St. Elmo. 

Mrs. Kilzer was born May 5, 1930, in St. Elmo, to Morris C. and Esta A. (Guthrie) Durbin. She married Robert Kilzer on June 13, 1951, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Elmo, and he preceded her in death.

She enjoyed taking care of people. She loved her family and enjoyed gardening, nature and sitting on her front porch waving at people as they passed by.

Mrs. Kilzer is survived by her two daughters, Janet (husband Gary) Flora of Beecher City and Cheryl Calhoun of Nokomis; three sisters, Ethel Moody of Glenview, Betty (husband Bill) Springman of Brownstown and Mary (husband Keith) Denton of Beecher City; sister-in-law, Donna Durbin; daughter-in-law, Sheryl Jackson of St. Peter; six grandchildren, Mark and Barb Kilzer, Chris Flora, Jenni and Kenny Warner, Josh and Christy Kilzer, Amanda (companion Clifton Davis) Calhoun and Johnny Calhoun; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one furry friend, Penny.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Donald Lee Kilzer and Ronnie Lynn Kilzer; brother, Dennis Durbin; four sisters, Dorothy Siebert, Esta Durbin, Alice Meseke and Rita Durbin; brothers-in-law, Gene Moody, John Siebert and Harvey Meseke; and son-in-law, John Calhoun.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in St. Elmo or the donor’s choice.
