Mark G. Minnis, 76, of Morrisonville, died Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at 10:16 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville. A Funeral Mass will follow at 12 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Florent Kanga, S.A.C. officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in  St. Maurice Catholic Cemetery in Morrisonville. Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home in Morrisonville is assisting the family.

Mr. Minnis was born Feb. 10, 1945, in Taylorville, the son of Lavora “Flint” and Catherine (McQuade) Minnis. He married Yola A. Newman on Sept. 16, 1972, at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville, and she survives.

A 1964  graduate of Morrisonville High School, he proudly went on to serve the country in the United States Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge, he worked for Borg Werner from 1970 to 1981. He then went on to work for St. Maurice School and the Knights of Columbus as head of maintenance.  In 2006, he retired from Sacred Heart Griffin Convent. Throughout his career, he owned and operated his own cleaning business, Minnis Floor Cleaning. 

He was a lifetime member of St. Maurice Catholic Church and a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus in Morrisonville. He was an avid Cardinals fan.

In addition to his wife of over 48 years, he is survived by his daughters, Tonia (finace Ed Neal) Minnis of Morrisonville and Catherine Minnis (husband Jay) Fassero of Kincaid; granddaughters, Kendra (fiance Edward Radaker) Johnsonton of Jacksonville, and Reagan and Lena Fassero of Kincaid; siblings, Philip (wife Linda) Minnis of Marion, Brian Minnis of Morrisonville, Maureen (companion Vern Lowis) Dowdy of Palmer, and Kurt (wife Rhonda) Minnis and Raymond Minnis, all of Morrisonville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son.
