Martha Mae (White) Long, 95, died at 5:02 a.m. on Monday, June 5, 2023, at her residence in Springfield.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon today,  Thursday, June 8, at the United Methodist Church in Hillsboro. Funeral services will start at noon at the church with the Rev. Michael Lawton and the Rev. Ralph Ward officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro.

Mrs. Long was born on March 6, 1928, in Versailles, MO, to Elmer C. and Ruby (Finley) White. She married Donald R. Long on June 4, 1950,in Salem, and they were married nearly 66 years before he preceded her in death on February 13, 2016.

Mrs Long graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia, MO, during this time she played bass violin in the high school band and was able to perform in the USO Swing Band. She then went on to Murray State University, in Murray, KY, on a full ride music scholarship.

In her life Mrs. Long lived in New Holland, Hillsboro and Springfield. She worked as an elementary education music teacher for the Hillsboro School District. Her love of music also led her to direct the choir at United Methodist Church in Hillsboro and Concordia Village in Springfield. Mrs. Long was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hillsboro and the Retired Teacher Association. She loved to play bridge and was a doting grandmother.

Mrs. Long is survived by her children, Cindy (Joe) Adams of Chandler, AZ, Mike (Glenda Bickel) Long of Rochester,  and  Stan (Darcy Dalzotto) Long of Bastrop, TX; six grandchildren,   Brooke Gianelli, Joe S. Adams, Drew Long, Chuck Long, Kurt Long and Lena Long; and eleven great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters.
