Marvin B. Elam, 89, of Taylor Springs, died on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021, at his home.

A private family burial will be held at a later date in Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Coffeen. Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro is charge of arrangements.

Mr. Elam was born on Dec. 15, 1931, in Donnellson to Ira Elam and Opal M. (White) Elam. He married Alice Burris on April 26, 1958. They were married for over 63 years and she survives.

He was a 1949 graduate of Hillsboro High School. He worked for Kroger and Consolidated Coal Mine in Coffeen. He served as mayor of Taylor Springs. He enjoyed old west movies, fishing, hunting and keeping an immaculate garden. He was a musician; he was a guitar player and vocalist in the band “The Drifters.”

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Frank (Carol) Elam and Pam (Kelly) Mackey; grandchildren Sara (Corey) McFarlane, Susan (Ed) Stewart, Melissa (Baxter) Grace, Kelli (Michael) Duncan, Adam Mackey, Luke Mackey, Karli Mackey, Mona Elam (companion Tim Charles), Josh (Lisa) Elam, Torie (James) Standridge; daughters-in-law Jenny Elam and Teresa Elam; sister Dorothy (Larry) Peregrine, and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Hershel Elam; and two sons, Marvin (Butch) Elam and Ed Elam.
