Mary H. Miller, 79, of Vandalia, died on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021, at her home.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., on Monday, Oct. 4, 2021, at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at the funeral home, with Pastor Tom Goodell officiating. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Mrs. Miller was born on Jan. 27, 1942, in Alton, the daughter of Dr. Stanley W. and Helen (Voumard) Moore. She married Mark A. Miller on Sept. 9, 1962, in Vandalia, together they shared 59 years of marriage. Mrs. Miller graduated from Presbyterian- St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago in 1963, and was a past President of St. Luke’s Nurses Alumni Association.

After graduation, the couple moved to Ramsey, where they began their career in the funeral business. Mrs. Miller was the co-owner of Miller Funeral Homes, Ltd. She started a grief support group, Rainbow Reflections, which she conducted on a weekly basis for several years. Mrs. Miller was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Vandalia, was a founding member of Vandalia Community High School Alumni Association and helped organize a yearly reunion. She enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Vandalia Country and Golf Club and a past member of Ramsey Golf Course. Mrs. Miller also enjoyed reading, working jigsaw and sudoku puzzles and playing cards, especially with the area woman’s bridge club. She was an Abe Award recipient. 

Mrs. Miller is survived by he husband; daughter, M. Michelle (Mark) Daniels of Columbia; son, Mark A. (Brooke) Miller II of Vandalia; grandchildren, McKenzie Daniels of Waterloo and Mitchell Daniels of Columbia; sisters, Beverly (Wayne) Mason of Libertyville, Stephanie Aldendifer of Plano, TX, and Marsha (Howard) Gulick of Bethlehem, PA; seven nephews; and one niece.

 She was preceded in death by her parents; and infant son.
