Mary Lou Turcol, 78, of Benld, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2019, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, Jan. 2, at SS Simon and Jude Church in Gillespie with Father Michael Haag officiating. Burial was held in Benld Cemetery. Kravanya Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Turcol was born Oct. 9, 1941, to John and Mary (Katich) Cavallo. She married Robert Lee Turcol on April 4, 1964, at St. Joseph's Church in Benld, and he survives.
She was a graduate of St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield. She received her master's degree in nursing and geriatrics from the University of Illinois in Springfield.
A registered nurse for the emergency room at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, she was a home health care director in Staunton. She enjoyed reading, stitchery club and spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by children, Christina Turcol of Benld, Dean Turcol (Suzanne Lobb) of Clearwater, FL, and Angela Sandretto (Robert) of Gillespie; grandchildren, Bailey Lovejoy (Keith) of Gillespie, Owen Turcol of Gillespie, Tyler Sandretto of Collinsville and Riley Sandretto of Gillespie; and sister, Patricia (Peter) Bolt of Springfield.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughter, Alison Page, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Louis and Virginia Turcol.
Memorials may be made to Benld Public Library, Adopt-A-Pet and Gillespie High School band.
