Mary L. Read, 91, of Witt, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2019, at 9:30 p.m. at Edwardsville Care Center in Edwardsville.
Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. at the Witt United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the church. Burial will be held in Witt Cemetery. Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Read was born Aug. 5, 1928, in Decatur, the daughter of Edward and Olive (Flowers) Thorpe. She married Carl R. "Bob" Read Nov. 25, 1949 in Decatur, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 1986.
She was a registered nurse at Hillsboro Area Hospital.
She is survived by her sons, Robert (wife Pam) Read of Edwardsville and Edward (wife Kerri) Read of Sherman; grandson, Tim (wife Cecilie) Read of Los Angeles, CA; great-grandsons, William and Henry Read; and a brother David (wife Donna) Thorpe of Decatur.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by daughter, Susan Allred and a brother, Edward Thorpe.
