Mary M. Fleming-Dirks, 95

Mary Marjorie Fleming-Dirks, 95, of Ohlman, died on Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, at 12:25 a.m. at her home.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 19, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Nance officiating. Burial will be held at Anderson Cemetery in Palmer.

Mrs. Fleming-Dirks was born Feb. 5, 1925, in Bear Creek Township in rural Christian County, to Harvey Andrew and Mary Ethel (Kelly) Ginger. She married Leo Earl Fleming in 1940, and they later divorced. She then married Cecil Dirks in 1972, and he preceded her in death. 

She worked many years as a nurse’s aid at Hillsboro Area Hospital and later as the postal clerk at Ohlman Post Office for 18 years.

Mrs. Fleming-Dirks was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Ohlman and served as an Ohlman village trustee.

She is survived by her sons, Ronald (Lynn) Fleming, Ted (Linda) Fleming and Roger Fleming, all of Taylorville, and James Ward of Herrin; daughters, Carolyn Anderson of Nokomis, Jeanne (Bruce) Woody of Brandon, FL, and Barbara Gaffigan of LaPort, TX; 24 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; stepdaughters, Patty (Kevin) Herpstreith and Angie Danuser; half-siblings, Wanda Weingart, David Hendricks, Dennis Schneider, Judy Hamm, William Ginger and Charles Ginger; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Fleming-Dirks was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Richard Fleming and Douglas Fleming; siblings, Wayne Ginger, Eva David, Darlene Martin, Harvey Ginger Jr., Jack Ginger and Doris Ginger in infancy; stepbrother, Michael Ginger; and sons-in-law, Robert Anderson and Robert Gaffigan.
