Mary R. "Polly" Carpenter, 88, of Nokomis, died at 8:40 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 23, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Apostolic Lighthouse Church in Schram City. Burial will take place in Ramsey Cemetery in Ramsey.
Mrs. Carpenter was born on Aug. 4, 1929, in Vandalia, to Othie and Bessie (Brown) Carlock. She married Carl J. Carpenter on Feb. 10, 1951, in Newark, NJ, and he preceded her in death on March 11, 2016.
She attended business college, and went on to work as a bookkeeper.
She was a member of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church in Schram City.
Mrs. Carpenter is survived by a son, Tim (Kris) Carpenter of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Tim, John and Daniel Carpenter and Katie Bohland; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Lucas, Gabrielle, Mordecai and Ezekiel.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Carl John Carpenter III; and brothers, Lloyd and Steve Carlock.
