Mary Stewart, 76, of Mulberry Grove, died Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at Hillsboro Area Hospital.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Assalley-Young Funeral Home in Greenville is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. Stewart was born on December 13, 1944, in Hillsboro, the daughter of Howard and Margaret (Squires) Nelson. She married Robert Pugh in Decatur in August of 1964. He preceded her in death in 1982. She married Dennis Stewart at the Bethel Baptist Church in Vandalia on December 27, 1985.

Mrs. Stewart was a graduate of Nokomis High School. She was loving, caring, and compassionate and always supportive. She was a member of the Columbus Baptist Church where she was the head pianist. Mrs. Stewart grew up in the Fillmore area and moved to Mulberry Grove after marrying Mr. Stewart. She worked at Brockway, Forsheda, Bass Mollett, and with the Bond County Probation Office for ten years. She liked to quilt, garden, and grow flowers. She enjoyed hummingbirds and yellow roses.

Mrs. Stewart is survived by her husband, Dennis Stewart; children Matt (wife Sherry) Pugh of Fillmore, Mark (wife Linda) Pugh of Mulberry Grove, Kristopher Stewart of Henderson, KY., Teresa (husband Rob) Burrus of Fillmore, and Kristina “Clarence” Stewart of Henderson, KY.; grandchildren Chad (wife Kim) Burrus, Casey Burris, Cassy (husband Rex) Wheeler, Mandy (husband Brad) White, Lauren (husband Trevor) Suess, Jody Porter, and Sarah (husband Nick) Davison, Brayden Goben, Kalo Goben, Payton Davis, Skyelor Cottrell, and many great-grandchidlren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband Robert Pugh.
