The Nokomis Redskins started off their week of play on Monday, April 15, as they hosted the Mt. Olive Wildcats.
The Skins defeated Mt. Olive twice last season and nothing would change on Monday as they got an 11-1 short-game victory.
Drew Masset started on the mound for the Skins and he was unhittable. Throwing all five innings in the short-game victory, Masset didn’t allow a hit, striking out six Wildcats along the way.
He did walk six batters, and combined with a Redskin error, the Wildcats were able to scratch out a run in the third.
The run didn’t mean much, though, because the Redskin offense put up 11 runs through the first three innings, taking advantage of eight Mt. Olive errors.
Masset was the lead contributor on the offensive side as well, scoring two runs and driving in three. The win extended Nokomis’ win streak to nine games.
Nokomis vs. Williamsville
The Redskins were right back on the field Tuesday, April 16, hosting the Williamsville Bullets. Despite out-hitting the Bullets, the Redskins committed six errors and took a tough 6-3 loss.
Williamsville came out strong, gaining a 4-0 lead after the top half of the third. The Skins answered with a run in each of the next two innings, cutting the lead in half at 4-2 heading into the sixth inning. Alex Tosetti tossed those first five innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits.
The Bullets would get a run off Evan Herpstreith in both the sixth and seventh innings, extending their lead to 6-2. The Skins picked up a run in the bottom of the seventh, but their rally fell short, losing 6-3. Marc Grigoroff and Carter Sabol each picked up two hits in the loss, which ended the Nokomis winning streak at nine.
Nokomis is scheduled to be off until Monday, April 22, when they will host the Indians of Altamont.
