American actor Christopher Reeve once said, "Once you choose hope, anything's possible."
For the past 15 years, a special, dedicated group of local volunteers has been working hard to provide just that hope for hundreds who have been diagnosed with cancer over the years.
The Montgomery County Cancer Association will celebrate its 15th anniversary this year at the annual Birthday Party and Celebration of Life on Saturday, June 22, at The Event Center of Montgomery County in Taylor Springs. For the past 15 years, they have provided financial assistance to county residents diagnosed with cancer, educational grants and funding for cancer research. Throughout the year, a variety of teams in the area host fundraisers to help the MCCA keep its mission of "Montgomery County citizens, helping citizens of Montgomery County."
This year's honorary chairman will be cancer survivor Christopher Mizera of Raymond
Registration for this year's event is due by Wednesday, June 19. Tickets are $12 each, and may be reserved by calling Shelley Halleman at 217-412-8598.
As part of this year's celebration, brightly colored floral tributes will be on display throughout the program, and may be taken home at the end of the night. Area residents may purchase a paper flower in honor of, or in memory of someone who has battled cancer. The minimum donation for each floral tribute is $5, and the MCCA will use the funds to continue serving its mission.
Inside today's paper, there is a memorial order form for anyone wishing to purchase a floral tribute. Donations and forms may be mailed to Nancy Savage, 110 Quail Lane, Litchfield, IL 62056.
