Melissa Marie Meta Meier-Kanches, 49, of Montgomery, formerly of Nokomis, died on Thursday, July 4, 2019, at her home.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 10, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nokomis. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Bert Eickhoff officiating. Burial will take place in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Nokomis. Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home of Nokomis is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Meier-Kanches was born Jan. 18, 1970, in Waukegan, to Dale H. and Jo D. (Fagan) Meier.
She graduated from Nokomis High School, and went on to become a registered nurse and serve in the Illinois National Guard. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Nokomis.
Ms. Meier-Kanches is survived by her parents of Lake Havasu City, AZ; children, Kimberleigh Marie Griffin of Shanghai, China, and Jared Michael Griffin of Springfield; sisters, Jessica (Mike) Hutchings Monasmith of Lake Havasu City, AZ, and Jodi (Gilbert) Meier Merkel of Harvel; and nieces and nephews, Madisyn and Thomas Petraukis and Jenna and Dayne Merkel.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Kimberly Kelly Swanson.
