Mercfest Brings Rugby Back To Hillsboro

On the heels of the three-team tournament they hosted in April, the Mercenaries Rugby Club is bringing rugby back to the Hillsboro Sports Complex on Saturday, October 27.

The inaugural Mercfest Rugby Tournament is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. with six teams scheduled to compete in this year's event. In addition to the Mercenaries, who have players from Hillsboro, Carlinville and the St. Louis area, on both sides of the Mississippi, the Springfield Celts, Kohlfield Scorpions, Champaign County Flatlanders, St. Louis Royals and Belleville Rowdies will also be competing for top honors this year.

The tournament is free to attend and the public is encouraged to come out and experience rugby firsthand. There will be merchandise for sale along with a 50/50 raffle, food and tickets for a customized cooler giveaway. There will also be a tournament social at Lemo's Sports Tap in Hillsboro after the event.
