Merle D. McFarlin, 68, of Hillsboro, died on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Those who wish to attend are asked to follow CDC guidelines by social distancing and wearing masks. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 12 p.m. at Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro with the Rev. Randy Sands officiating. The funeral will be live streamed on the funeral’s Facebook page.

Mr. McFarlin was born June 2, 1952, in Hillsboro, to Leslie Edsel and Mary Lou (Reynolds) McFarlin.

He graduated from Raymond High School with the class of 1970, later graduating from Ranken Technical School.

Mr. McFarlin was self-employed and well-known locally. He owned Sportsman Park in Litchfield, Merle’s Family Fun Center in Hillsboro and was co-owner of Sweet Addictions in downtown Hillsboro.

He is survived by his daughter, Alora (Matt) Chandler of Hillsboro; two grandchildren, Jovee and Ezra Chandler; one sister, Martha Patterson of Carlyle; nephew, Robert (Allie) Patterson of Fairview Heights; and great-nephew and niece, Cooper and Cera Patterson.

Mr. McFarlin was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Ada Jean Groves.

Memorials may be directed to Cuddles for Clefts or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
