Michael McLean, Sr., 79, of Troy, died Monday, Aug. 31, 2020, at home with his wife by his side.

According to his wishes, his remains were cremated. A private memorial Mass will be held at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville with the Rev. Rob Johnson officiating. Private inurnment of his ashes will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Glen Carbon. Kalmer Memorial Services is assisting the family.

Mr. McLean was born Jan. 18, 1941, in Granite City, to Donald and Doreen (Braundmeier) McLean. He married Charlotte Scaturro, and she survives.

In the early part of his life, he worked in construction and was an accomplished carpenter. He built and remodeled dozens of homes scattered throughout southern Illinois. He loved the outdoors, and walking in the woods, hunting game and mushrooms, building fires and watching thunderstorms brought him great joy. His greatest love was his family.

In addition to his wife of 22 years, he is survived by eight children,  Pam (McLean) Beck and Shawn McLean, both of Simi Valley, CA, Laura-Lee (Russel) Huber of Coffeen, Shawna (Jeff Lee) McLean of Playa del Rey, CA, Crista (Stephen) Davis of Alhambra, Eva (Lee) Bartony of Williamson, Michael (Ann) McLean, Jr. of Edwardsville and Ann-Marie (Robert) Flowers of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Jason (Sarah)  and Kyle Beck, Jack Jeffrey, Michael Dominic (Xio) McLean, Hannah (Dalton) King, Claire-Elise Huber, Emily and Jessica Davis, Joseph (Heather), Quenton (Mariya), Veronica (Kiefer) Cyrus and Hugh Bartony, Adam (Rebekah) Jacob, Sidney, Ian, Eli and Liam McLean, Alison Taylor and Macie Flowers; great-grandchildren, Casey and Avery Beck, Penelope McLean, Amasa and Eleanor King, Madeline, Adriana, Scarlett and Drayvin McLean, and Winifred Bartony; and sisters, Alice (Richard) Rezabek of Edwardsville and Kathleen Kelahan of Livingston, NJ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia McLean; brother, Donald McLean; and great-granddaughter, Valorie Bartony.
