Mr. Zerfowski was born on January 1, 1959 in Decatur to Richard Zerfowski and Dolly (Cunningham) Zerfowski.

He graduated in 1977 from Meridian Senior High School in Macon. He married Laura Morgan of St. Louis, MO, on July 1, 2000, and they bought a farm in Hillsboro where he resided until his death.

Mr. Zerfowski retired in 2019 from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 30 years of service.  He was the fourth generation of Zerfowski railroaders. His father (Richard), his grandfather (Emil), and his great-grandfather (Fred) were all railroad men.

He was an avid fisherman; he loved to fish, he loved to teach people how to fish, he was happiest fishing the pond on his property or out on a lake in his boat.

Mr. Zerfowski was a fabulous bowler.  He scored more than one perfect 300-point game and is listed in The International Bowling Hall of Fame. He bowled in several leagues in Decatur, Taylorville and Hillsboro.

He played softball in his adult years, a short stop, in a variety of leagues around Decatur.

He was a huge animal lover and had many dogs, cats and horses over the years. He fed every stray that showed up and they were given a home when needed.

After his retirement he spent an enormous amount of time in his gardens and planting flowers on the property. He posted daily photos of his flowers, garden, hummingbirds, the visiting deer, raccoons, possums and skunks.

Mr. Zerfowski is survived by his wife of nearly 26 years, Laura; his son, Brett (Brandy) Zerfowski and grandson, Ryne of Mt. Zion; brothers, Paul (Carla Merriman) Zerfowski of Mt. Zion, Jeff (Jean Brady) Zerfowski of Decatur, Darryl (Janet Walton) Zerfowski of Taylorville; his parents, Richard (Dolly) Zerfowski of Macon; nieces and nephews; and his son-in-law, Miguel Morgan of Jacksonville, NC.

He was preceded in death by his stepson, Jonathan Morgan, aunts, uncles and grandparents.
